Dix Ans du Raisin…. Ten Years of the Grape
Welcome to all those who are attending the Friends of the Grape. We are 10 years old today and we are looking forward to an afternoon of fun, food, wines, auctions and great company.
There are so many people to thank, our sponsors, food restaurants, wine companies, volunteers and friends who for ten years have supported St. Matthias “Friends of the Grape” and our vision to Welcome, Inspire, Nourish and Serve as well as help us raise over $400,000 since 1999.
From its concept there have been a few restaurants that signed on that first year and they are still with us La Bocca, The Chicago Brauhaus, Café Selmarie, Grafton, Barba Yianni & Fireside your friendship and support means the world to us. You gave legitimacy to the event and through your support we have been able to grow the tasting portion of our event to over 30 local restaurants.
Those first years were a challenge for sponsorship yet we have had some very generous friends who have help underwrite the event from the beginning a special thanks to the Larry & Cherry McNabb, Bill & Mary Thonn, Anthony & Marie Pertile, and Peter & Arlene Haelas your generosity is unmatched and your belief in St. Matthias inspiring.
Now there is not enough room to thank all the Hussars (there are 12 in the family) but Joe and Jan and their merry troop of 10 children have been a driving force in volunteer labor for the past 10 years. They have brought such joy and good humor to this event they are living our mission every day.
Every event needs good leadership we have been most fortunate to have had the same chair couple for ten years. Mary & John Tuttle, they embraced this idea and watched it grow over the past 10 years. John doing the Logistic and Mary doing what ever else was needed especially the Silent Auction. They have welcome friends, family and guests, they have nourished the hundreds of volunteers that have worked the event, they have inspired and challenge the parish to grow the event, and most importantly they have served the St. Matthias Community with their loyalty, enthusiasm and their exuberance for life. The success of this event is truly due to their vision and hard work and I am so honored to have worked with them and to call them good friends.

Mary, in a special way, especially by saying the Rosary. October has also been designated Respect Life Month. Please honor Mary and also help The Women’s Center, a problem pregnancy help center, by offering your rosary for the mothers who come to us for help with their pregnancies. During 25 years, we have saved at least 32,000 babies from abortion and saved their mothers from a lifetime of regret. We could not do this without your help.
Volunteers are needed to organize and sort clothing donations at Cicero Ave. and to answer our crisis counseling line at our Cicero Ave. and Evergreen Park offices. Training provided. For more information call 773-794-1313.
We need volunteer ultrasound sonographers RDMS Certified for our Cicero Ave. and Evergreen Park offices. Call Kathy Michalak at 773-783-6100 for information.
