To the Great People of St. Matthias and Transfiguration,
I have had more compliments on the Holy Week and Triduum Masses and services at both Transfiguration and St. Matthias. You should all be very proud of the prayerful and inspiring atmosphere during which we marked the Paschal Mystery of Christ’s suffering, death and Resurrection. I want to convey a deep appreciation to the Liturgy Committees from both parishes for planning these most sacred services and to Deacon Roland Merced, Father Rene Pareja, Jim Ward, Terry Tuohy, Terri Miller, Grayce O’Toole and Sr. Vincentuis for their creativity in decorating our churches. All of our Ushers, Greeters, Lectors, Commentators, Eucharistic Ministers and Altar Servers did a great job. Seminarian Jose De Dios and Esparanza Canas provided extra help with the Good Friday outdoor procession and Stations of the Cross. Terry Tuohy, Judy Figueroa and a cast of many volunteers made our Holy Thursday Mass and Dinner a special celebration at St. Matthias and Fr. Frank Cimarrusti decorated the Altar of Repose
want to convey a special thanks to Lauren Pahati, Gloria Bagadiong, Nestor Espiritu, Jeffrey Bernas, Magdalena Bulawit, Jack Hetland, Ann Yurchak, Jean Simon and Ann Cully and Elizabeth Ledesma for their assistance throughout Holy Week at Transfiguration and Grayce O’Toole at St. Matthias. The music was particularly beautiful this year. Many musicians and singers complimented our regular choir members, Richard Shoff provided expertise with sound at St. Matthias and with the leadership of Amor Saenz and Maria Caparroso at Trans and Jennifer Reckamp at St. Matthias we were all led to sing beautiful music together. To all of the above and many more thank you so much for a very prayerful Holy Week.
At the doors of St. Matthias Church are envelopes entitled “Make our Garden Grow” We are asking for your assistance to spruce up the front lawn of St. Matthias Rectory. We need volunteers for gardening projects including your time and labor. We would appreciate donations of materials including flowers, trees, benches, and fences, perennial clippings/ cuttings/transplants from your gardens and brick pavers. Please fill out one of the envelopes and place it in the collection basket or drop it off at the Rectory Thanks for your interest.

It is not too early to prepare for our annual Global Fest which will be on Saturday, May 16 this year. Our School children have already begun working on the various ethnic themes and other cultural studies that help them to celebrate the various countries that they will represent. Global Fest is an annual way that we in our two-parish community express our variety, color and diversity. Each Classroom takes on a different country and transforms their room into an expression of that country’s food, dance, song and natural resources. Raffle tickets are on sale for $5 a piece with 4 $250 prizes. If you are interested in sponsoring a classroom for $250 or if you may be interested in other forms of sponsorship or program ads please contact Deb Bukovy or Sandria DeSapio at St. Matthias Transfiguration School 773-784- 0999.

A La Gente Maravillosa de San Matías y Transfiguración,
He recibido más halagos de la Semana Santa y las Misas del Triduo y los servicios en Transfiguración y en San Matías. Ustedes deben de estar muy orgullosos de la atmósfera inspirante con la cual marcamos el Misterio Pascual del sufrimiento de Cristo, la muerte, y resurrección. Quiero demostrar mi agradecimiento a los Comités Litúrgicos de ambas parroquias por planear estos servicios sagrados y al Diacono Roland Merced, el Padre Rene Pareja, Jim Ward, Terry Tuohy, Terri Miller, Grayce O’Toole y a Sister Vincentuis por su creatividad en la decoración de nuestras iglesias. Todos nuestros Ujieres, Lectores, Comentaristas, Ministros de Comunión, y Acólitos hicieron un buen trabajo. El Seminarista José De Dios y Esperanza Cañas ayudaron con la procesión del Viernes Santo y el Vía Crucis. Terry Tuohy, Judy Figueroa y otros voluntarios hicieron de nuestra Misa y Cena de Jueves Santo una celebración muy especial aquí en San Matías y el Padre Frank Cimarrusti decoro el Altar de Reposo.

En las puertas de la Iglesia de San Matías hay sobres que dicen, “Hagan que Nuestro Jardín Crezca.” Estamos pidiendo que nos ayuden a mejorar nuestro césped de al frente de la Rectoría de San Matías. Necesitamos voluntarios para proyectos en el jardín, incluyendo tiempo y trabajo.
Agradecemos donaciones de materiales incluyendo flores, árboles, bancas, y cercas, recortes/esquejes/ transplantes perennes de sus jardines, y ladrillos. Por favor llenen uno de los sobres y pónganlo en la colecta o llévenlo a la Rectoría. Gracias por su interés.

Nuestros estudiantes han empezado a trabajar en los temas étnicos y los estudios culturales que los ayuda a celebrar los diferentes países que van a representar. El Festival Global es un modo que aquí en nuestra comunidad de dos parroquias expresamos nuestra variedad, color, y diversidad. Cada Salón toma un país diferente y se transforma en una expresión de la comida, baile, canciones, y recursos naturales de ese país. Boletos para la rifa valen $5 cada uno y habrán 4 premios de $250.
