To the Great People of St. Matthias and Transfiguration,
This week’s gospel story tells us about the man born blind. It is a very long story during which this man comes to recognize Jesus as his savior. This recognition is more important than the fact that Jesus heals him. I hope and pray that you come to a deep realization of who the Lord is in your life during this Lenten season.

I want to thank Deacon Miguel Valle and Cathleen O’Connell Cahill for leading our Lenten Family Retreat this past weekend; thanks to all of you who participated. The children learned from Mrs. McGovern about fables and then made caterpillars that turned into butterflies so that they might better understand the story of the Transfiguration of Our Lord. The older children met with Ms. DeSapio and heard the story of Footprints in the Sand. They then proceeded to write about their own journey.
Fridays in Lent:
Please remember that we have Stations of the Cross at both parishes at 7pm on Friday evenings. The Stations of the Cross at St. Matthias are followed by the Nazarene Novena.
Fish Fry:
For the past 4 weeks St. Matthias and Transfiguration have hosted a Fish Fry at Atlantic Pub on 5062 N. Lincoln. The Fish Fry’s have been a great success with an average of 100 people in attendance each Friday. For $11.00 for adults and $6.00 for kids it is a great value. The fish is fresh and battered on the premises and cooked as we need it. It is all you can eat buffet which includes fish, fries, vegetables and soft drinks. We will be hosting the Fish Fry for the next 2 weeks from 6:00- 9:00 and hope you make it.
Special Notes:
For the past 5 years St. Matthias has hosted a unique Holy Thursday Mass in the School Hall. The Mass is in the round where the congregation sits at tables to experience the Last Supper as it relates to our Mass. The evening has the full choir and orchestration. After Mass a Community Dinner of lamb is served by students from St. Matthias Transfiguration School and the CCD program to participants. At the end of dinner the community processes to the Church for a final blessing. Reservations are requested so please call the Rectory to reserve a seat.
This year St. Matthias and Transfiguration Churches are collaborating on a joint Passion Service on Friday, April 10 at 11:00am.
The beginning of the Passion will be read in English and in Spanish at St. Matthias Church followed by an outdoor procession with the Stations of the Cross in both English and Spanish along the way. Some Stations will be designed by families of both churches. The procession will end at Transfiguration Church at approximately 12:30.
There is so much tradition in our Catholic Faith and at no other time is it so richly showcased as in Holy Week I encourage all of you to participate in the services offered that week and bring tell your friends.
A La Gente Maravillosa de San Matías y Transfiguración,
La historia del Evangelio de esta semana nos cuenta sobre el hombre que nació ciego. Es una historia larga donde al final el hombre reconoce a Jesús como su salvador. Este reconocimiento es mas importante que cuando Jesús lo cura. Durante esta Cuaresma, espero y rezo que ustedes lleguen a una realización profunda sobre la importancia de Dios.
Quiero agradecerle al Diacono Miguel Valle y a Cathleen O’Connell Cahill por guiarnos la semana pasada con nuestro Retiro Familiar de Cuaresma; gracias a todos los que participaron. Los niños aprendieron unas fábulas con la Señora McGovern y después hicieron orugas que se convirtieron en mariposas para entender la historia de la Transfiguración de Nuestro Señor. Los niños mayores se reunieron con la Señora DeSapio y escucharon la historia de Huellas en la Arena y después escribieron sobre su propio viaje. Los viernes de Cuaresma:
Por favor recuerden que tenemos el Vía Crucis en ambas parroquias a las 7 PM todos los viernes. Después del Vía Crucis tendremos la Novena Nazarena en San Matías.
Cenas de Pescado:
Durante estas 4 semanas, San Matías y Transfiguración han tenido unas Cenas de Pescado en el Atlantic Pub que queda en el 5062 N. Lincoln. Estas cenas han sido un gran éxito, con más o menos 100 personas que asisten cada viernes. Por solo $11.00 para adultos y $6.00 para niños, es un buen precio. El pescado es fresco y lo cocinan a medida de que lo ordenen. Es un buffet de todo lo que pueda comer que incluye pescado, papas a la francesa, vegetales, y soda. Seguiremos con estas cenas por 2 semanas más de 6:00-9:00 PM y esperamos que puedan ir.
Notas Especiales:
Durante los últimos 5 años, San Matías ha tenido una Misa de Jueves Santo en el Salón de la Escuela. La Misa es en el círculo, y la congregación se sienta en las mesas para sentir la Ultima Cena, para que uno se relacione más con la Misa. La noche esta llena de coros y orquestación. Después de la Misa, los estudiantes de San Matías Transfiguración y del programa del CCD sirven cordero como parte de una Cena en Comunidad. Después de la cena, la comunidad se va a la Iglesia en procesión para la bendición final. Pedimos que llamen a la Rectoría para que hagan una reservación para sus puestos.
Este año, las Iglesias de San Matías y Transfiguración se unirán para tener un Servicio de la Pasión el viernes, 10 de abril a las 11:00 AM.
El principio de la Pasión será en ingles y en español en San Matías, y después habrá una procesión del Vía Crucis afuera durante el camino que también será en ingles y en español. Algunas Estaciones serán diseñadas por familias de ambas iglesias. La procesión se acabara en Transfiguración más o menos a las 12:30 PM.
Hay tanta tradición en nuestra Fe Católica y eso es visto más que todo durante la Semana Santa. Les sugiero que participen en los servicios que serán ofrecidos esa semana y también traigan a sus amigos.
