To the Great People of St. Matthias and Transfiguration,
As we continue our Lenten journey we have more powerful stories from scripture to reflect on. This week we hear the story of the Raising of Lazarus. This is a literal experience of Jesus bringing his friend Lazarus back to life. The story occurs in Bethany which is just across the Kidron Valley and up some rocky hills near Jerusalem. Physically, Jesus is getting closer to the saving events of his suffering death and Resurrection that will occur in the next three weeks. Spiritually he is preparing us for the new life of his own Resurrection as he restores Lazarus to life.
want to thank Deacon Miguel Valle and Kathleen O’Connell Cahill for leading the reflections during our Family Lenten Retreat last weekend. We really appreciate their time and the insights that they shared with us.
Next week is Palm Sunday and this begins the most solemn time of the entire church year. We will begin all Masses next weekend by gathering outside (weather permitting) on the sidewalks near both churches. At Trans we will gather near the big wooden cross on the sidewalk between the church and the rectory. At St. Matthias we will gather on the sidewalk in front of the rectory. We will bless the palms and read the first Gospel and then process into the churches. Please gather in 2 lines with palms raised so that the Presider and other ministers can walk between the lines in a procession leading all back into church.
We will continue to offer the Sacrament of Reconciliation each Saturday at both churches. Special Lenten Reconciliation times for Lent include: 7 pm Tuesday, April 7 and Good Friday, April 10 from 5:30-6:45 pm at St. Matthias and at Transfiguration following the Stations of the Cross on Tuesday, April 7 and 1-3:30 Saturday, April 11.
Please Note that the 12:30 Mass at Transfiguration will be moved to 1 pm NEXT SUNDAY-Palm Sunday and Easter Sunday as well to accommodate parking.

It is not too early to prepare for our annual Global Fest which will be on Saturday, May 16 this year. Our School children have already begun working on the various ethnic themes and other cultural studies that help them to celebrate the various countries that they will represent. Global Fest is an annual way that we in our two-parish community express our variety, color and diversity, Each Classroom takes on a different country and transforms their room into an expression of that country’s food, dance, song and natural resources. Global Fest also features a multi ethnic Mass and this year we will display as many images of Mary from as many different countries as we possibly can. Please consider sharing your image or statue of Mary for display near our current Mary Altar in St. Matthias Church.

A La Gente Maravillosa de San Matías y Transfiguración,
Mientras seguimos con la Cuaresma, tenemos historias de las escrituras mas poderosas en que reflexionar. Esta semana escuchamos sobre el Levantamiento de Lázaro. Esta es una experiencia literal de Jesús cuando le vuelve a dar vida a su amigo Lázaro. La historia ocurre en Bethany, que queda cruzando el Valle Kidron y sobre los cerros cerca de Jerusalén. Jesús se esta acercando físicamente a los eventos de su sufrimiento, muerte, y Resurrección que ocurrirán en las próximas tres semanas. Espiritualmente se esta preparando para su vida nueva de su propia Resurrección, cuando le devuelve la vida a Lázaro.
Quiero agradecerle al Diacono Miguel Valle y a Kathleen O’Connell Cahill por guiarnos la semana pasada con las reflexiones durante nuestro Retiro Familiar de Cuaresma. Agradecemos su tiempo y perspicacia que nos prestaron.
El próximo domingo es Domingo de Ramos, que es el comienzo de la temporada más solemne del año, de la iglesia. La próxima semana empezamos todas las Misas por fuera de ambas parroquias (si la temperatura lo permite). En Transfiguración nos reuniremos cerca de la cruz de madera que queda entre la iglesia y la rectoría. En San Matías nos reuniremos en el andén en frente de la rectoría. Daremos la bendición sobre las palmas y leeremos el primer Evangelio afuera, y después entraremos en procesión a las iglesias. Por favor formen 2 líneas con las palmas arriba, para que el Sacerdote y los ministros puedan pasar en medio de las líneas en procesión mientras entran a la iglesia.
Seguiremos ofreciendo el Sacramento de Reconciliación cada sábado en ambas parroquias. El horario especial de Reconciliación durante la Cuaresma es: 7 PM el martes, 7 de abril y el Viernes Santo, 10 de abril desde las 5:30 PM hasta las 6:45 PM en San Matías y también en Transfiguración será después del Vía Crucis el martes, 7 de abril y el sábado, 11 de abril desde la 1 hasta las 3:30.
Por favor tengan en cuenta que la Misa de las 12:30 en Transfiguración será a la 1 PM el PROXIMO DOMINGO – domingo de Ramos y el día de la Pascua, por cuestiones del parqueo.
Por favor disfruten del Desayuno de Panqueques en el Salón esta semana después de todas las Misas en San Matías. Gracias al Programa Pillars por su apoyo a nuestra Escuela en esto y en muchos otros eventos.
Ahora es buen tiempo para prepararnos para nuestro Festival Global anual que será el sábado, 16 de mayo. Nuestros estudiantes ya han empezado a trabajar en los temas étnicos y los estudios culturales que los ayuda a celebrar los diferentes países que van a representar. El Festival Global es un modo que aquí en nuestra comunidad de dos parroquias expresamos nuestra variedad, color, y diversidad. Cada Salón toma un país diferente y se transforma en una expresión de la comida, baile, canciones, y recursos naturales de ese país. El Festival Global también tiene una Misa multiétnica y este año tendremos muchas imágenes de la Virgen Maria de todos los países que podamos conseguir. Por favor consideren prestar su imagen o estatua de la Virgen para exponer cerca de nuestro Altar de la Virgen en la Iglesia de San Matías.
